Talking of ignorant American film-makers, anyone watched any of the Star Wars 3 production clips on the official site?
There's one where after we see all the design work going on for the movie Lucas turns around and says; "Hey, I better start writing the script!"

Looking forward to seeing it though, y'know, even though it's just a bunch of special effects and blue screens and stuff and he's bastardizing the history of film-making rant rant etc.... anyone else feel the same?

Completely! He has taken something cool (Star Wars) and turned it into an embarrassment with those shite prequel 'things'. I'm quite pissed off with Lucas for doing that.

I really think a trained chimp could have turned in something better than TPM and AOTC - they truly are examples of terrible terrible film-making. What a mess! I like to pretend they don't even exist (I must add I was a HUGE Star Wars fan as a child - as most blokes of my generation were).

I will go to see number 3 out of curiosity but after his last two lame attempts I'm going in with VERY low expectations. Apparently the title of it is now rumoured to be 'The Birth of the Empire' (not 'The Creeping Fear' as originally rumoured).

And the worst thing about it is that he probably knows that most people are going to go and see it anyway (me included).

I hope Peter Jackosn's LOTR films (wads of cash with crediblity) make him feel ashamed of himself. It's hard to believe that the same person that made American Graffiti (and even the original Star Wars) made those prequels. Try watching the production clips I mentioned then you may understand why it annoyed me enough to label him a 'twat', in fact, make it 'fat bearded twat' for good measure- instead of merely dismissing people as fanboys.

I could just as easy dismiss you as a cynic who has his toungue firmly stuck up Luca's arse.

Erm.. That's pretty standard practice though on something of this scale.

I'm pretty sure I have seen it. I remember the quote.

That is down to his talent as a writer. Not the way a production of this scale works.

To site the other filmmaker in this thread as an example.

Peter Jackson has had his art department working on King Kong for over a year. Designing the set's costumes, creatures, building cg models and basically prepping the movie.

Just a few months back Jackson was on the record as saying they are yet to write the script. They are starting from scratch.

But because the movie is so big and they know roughly what they need they get started now on all the stuff that they can get started on.

Does that make Jackson a fat bearded kiwi twat?

Go do some research into the production of the Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi. Or go look at the making of indiana Jones. He had his art department working on those films as soon as he had the idea he was going to make the films. Before he even hired a writer for india Jones they had concept drawings of characters and locations and sequences they would like to see in the film. Shit.. I think they even made up posters.

Whatever dude... Say what you like. I ain't the one slagging the shit out of filmmakers and throwing personal insults around at people I don't know because they dared to make a film that wasn't as good I I'd hoped it would be.

Like I said. I'm no die hard star wars or Lucas fan. I enjoyed all the movies Ive seen of his. But I enjoyed The Fellowship of the Ring more than pretty much anything he has ever done.

I have my tongue up neither Lucas's or Jacksons ass.

Surely it's fair to praise good films and criticise poor ones. Especially when the film-maker in question was in a position to do whatever he wanted. It's just a shame that he didn't aim a bit higher than purely a special FX showreel.

Even the actors in these films have criticised them.
